Breaking News: New Candidate Emerges For Grimsby Town
Linfield boss David Healy is reportedly being considered for the vacant Grimsby Town manager position, according to Pete O’Rouke on X.
The League Two club have been without a manager since the sacking of Paul Hurst after a poor start to the season with David Healy understood to be in the running, according to reports.
Former Northern Ireland player Healy had an extensive career within English football, having been on the books of Manchester United, Leeds United, Sunderland, Rangers, Norwich City and Ipswich Town amongst others. He also sits as the country’s all time top scorer with 36 goals in 95 appearances.
The 44-year-old took charge of Linfield in 2015, winning five NIFL Premiership titles, two Irish Cups and two Northern Ireland Football League Cups in his time at the club.
Grimsby currently sit in 21st in the League Two table, with only 14 points from their opening 16 games of the season. They also had to rely on a second half equaliser by Danny Rose to save an embarrassing defeat to Slough Town in the FA CUP. Several candidates have been linked to the role including local rivals Lincoln City’s former manager Danny Cowley, Nathan Rooney, Phil Parkinson (Altrincham FC), Leam Richardson and David Artell.

This would certainly be an interesting appointment, Healy has an extensive CV as a player having worked within some top clubs up and down the country. He also knows what it takes to win, after picking up several accolades for Linfield, having been there for an extensive period of time. Having said that, his managerial credentials come from one club and it remains to be seen whether he can replicate that success in the EFL. There are plenty of candidates in the running, and no clear leader at the moment, so it could be an interesting couple of weeks for Grimsby Town fans.
